In my Torah portion, I learned about the values and importance of making promises. One of the promises I have made as a Bat Mitzvah is to donate to the humanitarian organization, IsraAID. IsraAID is an organization that helps during human and man made emergencies. With their team, they are ready to respond to an emergency within hours of it happening.
While my family was in Tel Aviv, I was able to see first hand how the organization works. I went to their new offices and got a tour and met with their global staff and their CEO Yotam Polizer. I asked questions and learned about the different ways they have helped other countries. Not only do they send teams for physical or structural problems, but they also help with psychological challenges after traumatic situations across the globe.
They have worked all around the world -- from Mozambique to help after the destruction from Cyclone Idai, to helping vaccinate people in Sierra Leone. They also were there in Houston after Hurricane Harvey which is how I first learned about the organization.
My goal is to raise $5,000 to go toward one of their biggest projects, addressing the refugee crisis due to the war in Ukraine. This money will go to support the basic needs of refugees -- including water filtration systems that provide clean water to hundreds of people and psycho-social support to provide access to counseling and emotional support. Helping Ukrainian refugees has become one of IsraAID’s biggest projects. They have been helping refugees get to the border of Moldova so that they can live safer since February 2022. Since then, they have been delivering truckloads of supplies and have expanded their help into Ukraine. As the war continues they began to provide healthcare and supplies for hospitals.
I'm inspired by the work of IsraAID and am grateful to Yotam and his team for sharing more about their work. I am committing my own money to support IsraAID and I hope you will consider joining me too! You can learn more about IsraAID here and support my campaign here.
With gratitude,
Liya
